PILLAR
1997, installation, Beta SP, video loop, color
"With "Pillar", Prosenc examines the exterior of the body in a piece that grapples with well-worn clichés about love while undercutting them. The piece is made up of video images that seem to be projected on a tall pillar; we see the intertwined limbs of people - it’s impossible to tell if there are two people, or perhaps more. The folds of bending elbows and the ripples of shoulder blades blend together, becoming one amorphous human form that rolls forward, then backward, and through a series of different colors. With "Pillar", Prosenc deftly suggests the mutability of the body’s boundaries, inviting us to understand a sense of self that expands beyond the confines of somatic limitations."
